Hi all, well by now I guess you've all had a chance to look at the survey and make some comment. I think most of you know how I feel about things, I'm firmly in the Back to Basics camp. Our original charter was,Affordable,Enjoyable,Close Racing, but I think we lost our way a bit. Last year Lee Partridge showed what can be done with what is probably the most standard car in the series. Up until the second last meeting last year the car had a completely standard front end,wishbones,ball-joints sway bar etc.For the last two rounds they fitted an adjustable but still very basic sway bar. The car runs a 911 pressure plate on a Roddy Smith fly wheel and a clutch plate from,as I recall, a Mitsubishi Triton ute, the same front struts as when I bought the car (2002) and a second hand pair of rear shocks I paid a grand for. Now obviously Lee has serviced the bits and pieces, shocks, springs etc and put plenty of effort in-to set up, but its still a very basic car. My point being you don't have to spend the kids inheritance to go fast you just have to drive well. Going backwards is not going to be easy but it may be the best way forward if we want to get some of the older cars back in the game.I believe we should have more control components ie shocks,clutches,front-end bit's etc and they don't have to be exotic, just all the same! Perhaps a limit on the number of tyres you can use per year to bring tyre management in-to the championship. If we said new rules for 2018, this would give current competitor's time to make there cars compliant and give prospective new starters a guide to what they will require. Anyway, that's my two bob's worth, lets hear what YOU think. Regards John Goddard
